What's new in 1.0

Changes since Preview 1:

• Brings in upstream fixes for an AI pass crash, goal replay hangs, and controller input lag with VSync.
• Fixes physical controllers being read twice through the iOS bridge and SDL, which could make submenus act as though B was pressed.
• Lets UIKit handle the three-dot menu during gameplay, pauses the game while that menu is open, and paces frames when the render surface is unavailable.
• Adds a way to hide the menu button and show it again with a two-finger tap. The frame-cap setting is labeled to clarify that lifting the cap can speed up the game.
• Keeps BallPad's iOS disc importer, touch controls, controller mapping, and memory-card support. Upstream's desktop settings app, Switch support, and texture-pack controls are not exposed here.

Install:

Download BallPad-unsigned.ipa and sign it with your own Apple account and sideloading tool. It targets iOS/iPadOS 17 or later; the oldest supported devices have not been verified. This is not a TestFlight or App Store build. To preserve an existing app's imported ISO, saves, and settings, install over it using the same signing team and application identity. Export your memory card first. Do not uninstall the existing app as part of the update.

Supply your own lawfully obtained Super Mario Strikers USA G4QE01 revision 0 raw ISO/GCM (1,459,978,240 bytes). No game image, extracted assets, or saves are included.

The release also contains matching source materials, engine Git history, FFmpeg relinking materials, and SHA256SUMS. Keep these with the IPA when redistributing it. Verify downloaded assets with shasum -a 256 -c SHA256SUMS.

Validation and limits:

Build 7 compiled for iOS device and Simulator. The engine's 12 data-independent unit checks passed; the Simulator Metal probe presented 90/90 frames. Focused menu, frame-cap, controller-mapping and rebind checks passed. An injected-input Simulator scenario reached a live match and game pause. Build 7 was installed in place and launched on an iPad Pro, with the ISO and memory-card save compared by hash before and after installation. The owner subsequently reported that the game plays well on that iPad. Dedicated physical-controller, extended gameplay, thermal/audio, and broader-device checks remain to be done.

BallPad source/tag target: 6a4ef15de8ec98ad8ef9d730121e58fc98cb1cfd. Maintained engine: c4ee7189e7f9193be6ec7cedd569a17f25266136 from chrissotraidis/strikers, based on upstream v1.3.0 b0e54c9a51cbfcfef7e5487feb02f843ff723d97.

About

BallPad:
